Choose Accountability

Mike Avis CEO

Being truly accountable is our choice every time.

We make choices everyday chioices that have  a direct impact on the results of our lives and in many cases the lives of others. Our attitudes, behaviours, and actions represent the choices we make. The positive news is we can always make new choices if we weren't satisfied with the results. We make an inifnite amount of choices each day, but there are Six fundamental choices that will dictate our life experience. Each choice is presented with a preference for making ourselves accountable, and while clearly thetre are not rules but options based on the context of the situation, each preference tends to represent where we may have weaknesess that stops us from becoming accountable.

The six choices I refer to are a key part of being accountable and we explore them in our sessions with clients.

These choices we call The Wheel of Accountability it is the use of the wheel that moves you to a higher and higher level of accountability. The choices become an anchor and are essential to performance individually and as a team.

During recent accountability intervention events, we worked with a highly dangerous situation with an Oil platform, copper mine and a less dangerous but important customer facing retail business.

There had been a number of significant incidents, a fatality, safety incidents and a lack of customer performance that was consistently causing customer complaints .

The different areas the teams were working in meant that consistently people were making different choices and taking risks. We walked them through the accountability six choice program starting with:-

  •  Do you Play Big or Small?
  • Are you more adaptable at home or at work as an example if the family wants you to do something do you adapt more rather than at work when your teammates want to make a change?

During the training intervention we explored the other 4 choices people can make.

The response from each group we worked with was that, when considering all the choices it was apparent that they are not designed to box you into one choice or another.

They are meant to identify where you can improve your perfromance, influence, and communication so that you can become totally accountable as we explored these further the groups were able to identify where they could use the six choices to make better choices and maintain a high level of performance.

It was also felt that using the Wheel of Accountability there was an increased level of confidence in decision making and a heighten level of ownership and accountability that has lead to improved performance.

The sessions we run are tailored to your needs and in every case we are able show tangible results through the measurements we use to assess outcomes. Everything is linked directly to the business needs and perfromance related.
